Win the chance to Support ‘From The Jam’ in Bristol

November 6th, 2008

Thursday 18th December 2008 @ Academy

From The Jam will be performing a nationwide tour during December and they would like to give a local band the opportunity to support them at their Bristol show! From The Jam legends, Bruce Foxton and Rick Buckler, will judge the competition and choose the winning band to play before them.

The much anticipated return to the UK in December allows the band to build on their phenomenal touring success here in 2007 when Bruce and Rick first reconnected and reunited with their loyal fan base. This is a once in a lifetime opportunity for a local band to share the stage with two thirds of The Jam as they perform all of the band’s greatest hits like Start, Going Underground and That’s Entertainment.

Cyan Arts & Second Look - Bristol: A Second Look

November 4th, 2008

Ever noticed the ‘secret door’ in the wall? Or seagull’s feet pitter-pattering above your head as if through grains of sand, as you dine in the Spyglass? Or the hues of vibrant skies silhouetting Bristol’s bridges or solid, angular buildings? Ever noticed - the man lying unconscious by your feet, as you wait for your bus home?

These were just a few of the many visual moments captured by 80 entrants in the recent photography competition, ‘Bristol: A Second Look’, organised by Second Look, a local photography collective masterminded by Lisa Furness, and supported by Cyan Arts, a local photographic art gallery created by Gillian Stewart and Jade French. Cyan Arts and Second Look are inspired by the same vision – for local like-minded photographic artists to be able to meet and exhibit their work.

My Brother Is an Only Child 15

Fri 18 - Thu 24 April

Dir: Daniele Luchetti Italy ‘07 1hr 39mins Subtitled

The contrasting lives of two brothers – one a fascist, the other a communist – provide the narrative fuel for this beautifully sketched tale of rivalry, love and political differences in Italy’s turbulent 60s and 70s. Over the course of fifteen years, the brothers struggle with their ideological and emotional conflicts as they navigate towards a clearer understanding of not only their differences but their deeply harboured similarities. Luchetti skilfully leavens intense dramatic action with moments of well-observed comedy, creating a moving portrait of the strength of blood ties and of Italy at this particularly turbulent point in its recent history.
