Festival Preview - Bristol Storytelling Festival 2009

Running from Saturday 31st January until Sunday 8th February 2009 @ Venues Across Bristol

The Bristol Storytelling Festival is a week-long series of events celebrating the magic of stories and storytelling held during National Storytelling Week.

“Storytelling is a natural human instinct and one of the oldest art forms. Storytelling uses the power of the spoken word to take listeners on a journey of the imagination. Through oral storytelling each story is individually recreated in the moment – in the space between the teller and the listener.”
The Society for Storytelling

2009 is the festival’s 3rd year and it has a familiar line-up of fantastic story events plus a few new ones in including a performance from one of the UK’s most accomplished storytellers Jan Blake and a Storytelling Half-Marathon - 13 hours of non-stop storytelling at Bristol Old Vic on Saturday 7th February from 10am to 11pm!

During the festival, a selection of professional storytellers will skilfully weave local legends, folk tales, tall stories, historical anecdotes, ghostly rumours and enchanting yarns for adults, children and families to experience and enjoy the magic of storytelling. And don’t miss out on one of the show piece events – ‘The Story Slam’ at the Lansdown Pub in Clifton on Thursday 5th February where Bristolians are invited to battle it out to find the best storyteller in the city!

For most events there is a small fee on the door but there are plenty of free events too.
