Urban Spoken Word Event

Rhymes of Resistance

6pm Wednesday 31st October 2007 @ Kuumba, Bristol

Rhymes of Resistance (as part of The Compass of Resistance International Film Festival) presents a freestyle spoken word evening that will showcase some of Bristol’s finest poets, including an open-mic session for up-and-coming wordsmiths. The event, compered by Blackout JA, will kick-off with three performances by local spoken word poets; slam champion Byron Vincent, Malusi and Tappis. Following this, the open-mic session will showcase the best of up-and-coming local talent. The focus of the evening is to celebrate poetry in all its contemporary forms from spoken word to rap, in a highly interactive environment.

The night will give great exposure for new poets, and will draw support from local communities and organisations dedicated to promoting spoken word. The evening will lead into ‘Hip-Hop Halloween’ at Mackies Bar, starting at 21.00, featuring DJ Cheeba (Detectives of Perspective) and Hip-Hop Karaoke.
